Over the years, the celebration of one of Ireland’s patron saints, St. Patrick, has become not only a holiday for the 33.1 million Americans who identify with being of Irish heritage, but also a celebration for all.

Cities such as Boston, Chicago, and New York City make it easy for some of the 56% of Americans who celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. While Boston is home to the most Irish-Americans and earns the title as the most Irish U.S. city with Irish authenticity, Chicago pours in 45 pounds of dye to turn the Chicago River green, and New York City hosts the oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world. For those across the nation who can’t partake in these famous festivities, there are other ways to celebrate: wear green, make a special corned beef and cabbage dinner, or grab a pint of Guinness.

America can expect to see an estimated $.6 billion increase in spending this March 17th, we assume more will be spent on alcohol as well. St. Patrick’s Day is the fourth most popular drinking day and about three-quarters of fatal auto accidents reported someone being two times the legal limit. As 13 million pints of Guinness, not including other holiday favorites, is consumed around the world, we urge everyone to drink responsibly.

In addition to drinking responsibly, we urge you to prepare Before Disaster Strikes. Natural and/or man-made disasters can be physically and emotionally damaging, and happen at any given time.
