As Winter Storm Liam spreads through the good old U.S.A., a mixture of snow, sleet, ice, and rain can be expected across the Plains, Midwest and Northeast, heightening the risks for more dangerous large car crashes.
Yesterday, a 70-car pileup occured in Iowa along Interstate 35. One of the vehicles amidst the chaos was the tour bus transporting the Dancing With the Stars cast and crew. Local officials described the crash as one of the worst pileups they’ve seen, resulting in one fatality and critically injuring at least five others. Interstate 35 was closed as well but later reopened later in the evening.
In the neighboring state of Missouri, frigid temperatures made road conditions equally dangerous. Missouri has reported 650 road accidents statewide, and Interstate 44 alone has witnessed about 70 of those accidents. Sunday afternoon, 3 crashes in total along the interstate created a 100-car pileup. The massive collision caused damage to several vehicles and shut down the major highway.
